Split ends? Here's how to prevent them in the future

Split ends? Here's how to prevent them in the future

Dry hair combined with dead ends is a common problem. We also call them split ends. It means that our hair is split at it 's ends - the oldest part of the hair shaft - due to damage. By the way, did you know that split ends don't only occur at the ends? They can be found all over our hair.

Split ends are a sign that you need to pay a little more attention to your hair. How do you treat them? The simple answer is: cut them off. But of course, prevention is better than cure. In these times of the corona pandemic, lockdowns and closed hairdressers, this article can be crucial for your hair. Read on quickly because here's how to prevent split ends in the future.

Here is how to prevent split ends

1. Dry your hair gently

Be gentle to your hair. Drying your hair too aggressively with a towel can lead to split ends. Pat or squeeze your hair dry instead.

2. Be careful when using styling tools with heat

Hairdryers, flat irons and curling irons, these tools become really hot and damage your hair. The result: split ends. It’s best, not to use these hair tools too often and if you do plan to use them on your hair, make sure your hair is clean and dry.

3. Always start brushing at the bottom of your hair

Start brushing the bottom 5 centimeters. Is this section well-combed? Then continue with the next 5 centimeters and so on.

4. Avoid hair bands

Tight hair bands can quickly damage your hair surface. Are you a lazy one and love to put your hair into a ponytail? No worries, you can still wear hair bands/elastics but you should try to tie the elastic not too tight.

5. Use a coarse comb

With a wide-tooth comb you minimize the friction that occurs in your hair, which prevents split ends.

6. Never sleep with wet hair

If you lie in bed with wet hair, your hair will be damaged more quickly because it is more fragile than dry hair.

7. Sleep on a satin pillowcase

A satin pillowcase is better for the health of your hair than a cotton one. Why? Because satin is much smoother and your hair therefore is less likely to be damaged. Treat yourself with a satin pillowcase and prevent split ends!

By following the mentioned tips closely, you will reduce the risk of split ends. But that is not all. We strongly believe in taking care of your hair from the inside. Meet the supplements of Holy Hair. These vegan beauty supplements will give you beautiful, long, strong and shiny hair.

Any doubts on having split ends? Have a look at the ends of your hair, if you find multiple ends and/or there is a white dot at the bottom, it's time to ring the alarm. These are most likely split ends.
