A gorgeous, voluminous hairdo: Here's why nutrition benefits the structure of your hair

A gorgeous, voluminous hairdo: Here's why nutrition benefits the structure of your hair

We all know this situation: it´s monday morning, you take a look in the mirror and find that your shiny, thick hair has failed you today. A typical case of a 'bad hair day'. Fanatical use of straighteners, hairspray and dry shampoo can often ruin it even more, so beware. You may ask yourself what else you could do and we have the answer for you! Choose the right nutrition and welcome your shiny, long - or short – hair. In this article we will provide you with all the information about the best nutrition for your hair.

10x The best nutrition for your hair

1. Salmon

Salmon is full of omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids support the health of your scalp and ensure that it does not dry out and flake. This results in a fresh look. So next time leave the carpaccio for what it is and go for a salmon sandwich!

2. Green vegetables

We approve of anything green: spinach, kale or broccoli. Not only is it very tasty, the intake of green vegetables also contribute to the health of your hair. Vegetables with a green color are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. That´s very important because your body uses these vitamins to produce sebum: your hair's natural conditioner.

3. Meat and poultry

The hair follicles mainly consist of proteins which is why it´s so important to get enough of these. Protein is found in, you guessed it: eggs. But proteins are also present in large quantities in meat and poultry. The role of protein promotes the growth and structure of our hair. A lack of protein therefore results in dry hair that breaks down easily. Dead ends. Something we want to avoid at all times.

4. Drink green tea

Is there anything green tea isn´t good for? Green tea contains epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). This is an important component of polyphenols. Research shows that EGCG could be useful in promoting hair growth in our hair follicles.

5. Drink coffee

Tired of green tea? Then switch to a delicious cup of coffee. Caffeine actually improves the elongation of the hair shaft which means more hair growth!

6. Nuts

Do you know those shampoos or conditioners that are enriched with almond oil? There's a reason for that. Nuts are full of vitamins and nutrients that will make your hair incredibly happy.

7. Cherish your oyster!

Oysters are a good source of zinc. The zinc from the oysters maintains the hair glands that produce sebum. That way, your hair doesn't become dry and lifeless. Extreme zinc deficiency can cause hair loss. That´s why it is important to get enough of this nutrient. Don´t stress out if you don´t like oisters! Zinc can also be found in other products such as meat, cheese and nuts.

8. Greek yoghurt

Start the day with a bowl of yogurt and red fruit. Greek yogurt contains calcium and of course is packed with protein. Damaged hair can be a signal of a calcium deficiency. Why is that? Because calcium actually stimulates hair growth and makes the hair strong.

9. Beans

It´s time for Chili con Carne: kidney beans promote hair growth because they consist of important proteins, iron and zinc.

10. Carrots

These orange vegetables are packed with vitamin A which provides a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp automatically results in healthy and strong hair and makes it shine. Isn´t that what we all want?
